The greatest concentration of caloric celebrations have officially BEGUN!
In just four months we will reach the January 1st finish line. When we do we will enter the new year an average of six to eight extra pounds heavier than we were when we started in October!
No problem …
We enter the new year with the determination to lose those extra pounds. We lose SOME of the extra pounds. Nine months goes by and we enter October once again having lost, (pat yourselves on the back) three to four pounds!
Wait a minute … If we gain six to eight pounds and we lose three to four pounds doesn’t that mean we are gaining three to four pounds every year? Before we know it, five years have passed and we are an extra fifteen to twenty pounds heavier.
So, it’s October 1st and time to start the celebrations without negative repercussions.
Tom Kelso, Exercise Physiologist with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, has published a wonderful article, “The Ugly Truth: Holiday Foods And Their Caloric Content”
Here you’ll find a variety of popular holiday foods, their suggested serving sizes, their total number of calories per serving and time we will need to invest in exercise to burn those calories!

Oh, and by the way, the fact that we walk ALL THE WAY OVER to the bowl of M&M’s, Candy Corn or Chocolate Kisses does not cancel out the fact they too have calories, casual calories that add up quickly!
Here’s a great web site to help you determine the caloric value of thousands of foods we consume.

Remember, everyone is on a diet; some happen to be better diets than others! We can enjoy the holidays pounds free and guilt free by being mindful of our food consumption and the exercise required to burn those extra calories!
Loads of luv’n,
